A dream come true for little Felix

23 Aug 2017

Two-year-old Felix Edwards is fascinated by the work taking place at the A19 and A1058 Coast Road junction, currently being delivered by SiskLagan JV on behalf of Highways England, and regularly drags his mum to see the diggers operating at the site and coaxes her to drive along the route almost on a daily basis. Felix happily watches a variety of heavy machines that are being used to build a new triple-decker roundabout.

When Highways England and contractors SiskLagan JV found out about Felix’s interest, we invited the youngster to see a digger up close at a safe site within their compound at Silverlink. Felix got a chance to have a look around an eight-tonne excavator and was also presented with a toy digger and a special hi-viz vest with his name on.

“I am probably the only person who sits through the traffic for fun. Pretty much every day Felix says, ‘can we go and see the diggers, can we drive past the diggers?. He is absolutely fascinated. He knows the names of the different types of machines, he points out cranes, bulldozers and dumper trucks, and will tell me which part is a boom, bucket, shovel or engine.”
