Belfast Tidal Flood Alleviation Scheme awarded to Charles Brand

04 Oct 2021

The Department of Infrastructure has awarded the construction of the £17 million Belfast Tidal Flood Alleviation Scheme Charles Brand Group.

The Tidal Flood Alleviation Project involves the detailed design, and construction of almost 9km of flood defences from Cutters Wharf in the South of the City to Belfast Docks. The project aims to provide a long-term approach to tidal flood risk management in Belfast.

Charles Brand will work in conjunction with Scheme Designers, Atkins, to deliver the £17m Marine Civil Engineering Scheme.

The detailed design and construction stages are estimated to take at least 18 months to complete and it is expected that works will commence in the Spring of 2022.

We are extremely pleased to have secured this prestigious scheme here in the heart of Belfast. Going back to the 1960’s, Charles Brands’ legacy is steeped in Marine Civil Engineering here in Northern Ireland and it is fitting that the Belfast Tidal Flood Alleviation Project commences near the recently completed Lagan Gateway Project in Stranmillis
