Lagan Construction Group celebrate National Women in Engineering Day 2016

23 Jun 2016

To mark National Women in Engineering Day 2016 Lagan Construction Group hosted a site visit for local school girls from Rathmore Grammar School at Lagan Building Contractors £18 million project at City Quays 2 in Belfast. Lagan Building Contractors, part of Lagan Construction Group, are currently delivering the City Quays 2 project as part of Belfast Harbour’s 20-acre regeneration plan for the area.

The event was supported by the Women’s Engineering Society who co-ordinate and promote the National Women in Engineering Day campaign. The National Women in Engineering Day which is held annually is an international awareness campaign to raise the profile of women in engineering and focus attention on the amazing career opportunities available to girls within the industry.

On the day the pupils were given an insight into Lagan Building Contractor’s project at City Quays 2 with a site tour and the girls also got to meet with Lagan Construction Group’s own female engineers to learn about the opportunities within engineering as a career path.

"Lagan Construction Group are proud to work in partnership with the Women’s Engineering Society to encourage more women to participate and achieve as engineers, scientists and as leaders within the construction industry.”
Colin Loughran, CEO of Lagan Construction Group
“We have been surprised and delighted by the response to National Woven in Engineering Day this year despite the European Referendum taking place on the same day! This event now seems to be embedded in the calendar as a day on which we take the initiative to encourage and inspire girls and women in their engineering careers and promote diversity and inclusion of all kinds in engineering. We are grateful to everybody who has worked hard to promote this day and celebrate the contribution of women in engineering.”
Dawn Bonfield, CEO Woman Engineering Society
“It was a very informative and well organised day for all involved. The girls could clearly envisage careers available in a range of beginning fields. Leaders from Lagan Construction Group were clearly enthused by their area of expertise which inspired students to also consider careers in a vast array of engineering professions”.
Andrew Donnelly, Technology Teacher at Rathmore Grammar School
