Mount Stewart Restoration was delivered by H&J Martin Construction & Fit Out, part of Lagan Construction Group, which involved the refurbishment of a Grade “A” listed house and grounds owned by the National Trust.
Described as the “Jewel in the Crown of National Trust projects”, the restoration needed to be carried out with the property donor still in residence. This was managed with the absolute minimum of disturbance, with many refurbishments executed outside the house to minimise noise and dust. Of particular note was the installation of a glass frontage and disabled ramp to the joinery restoration area, allowing visitors to watch the project’s many specialist craftsmen at work.
Environmental conservation was also meticulously observed, the site manager received a company safety award for outstanding results, and the workforce were provided with excellent facilities, training opportunities, and healthy lifestyle advice.
All elements combined in this project to demonstrate an impressive and highly successful commitment to the principles of considerate construction.
